The organization

The Virginia Department of Historic Resources preserves and promotes the Commonwealth's rich cultural heritage, from historic registers to highway markers.

/ 02 /

The challenge

Departments doing important work, invisible to each other and to the public. Internal communications and public positioning had drifted apart, and the old site made finding anything a research project of its own.

What we did

We aligned messaging across departments, clarified internal communications and public positioning, then redesigned their website.

  • Cross-department messaging alignment
  • Internal and public positioning
  • Website redesign with dynamic directories
Identity system: primary mark
Identity system: vertical lockup

The outcome

The new framework gave every department one way to talk about the work: Identify, Educate, Connect, Equip. Within 18 months, DHR's LinkedIn following grew from 50 to over 1,100, and the refreshed digital presence made each department's work findable by the public and by each other.
